Advanced Web Design

Prerequisite: successful completion of Introduction to Web Design

This course is an interdepartmental Business, English, Tech Ed and Art elective. In this one-semester course, students will develop the advanced skills of web design. In addition to exploring the advanced features of MacromediaDreamweaver, students will become familiar with other components of the MacromediaStudio MX software suite. Students will become familiar with the graphic design functions of Macromedia FFireworks. Students will also learn to use Macromedia Fireworks to create vector graphics, edit bitmap graphics, optimize images, and create and assign rollover effects for the Web. Finally, students will explore the animation features of Macromedia Flash and learn how to publish Flash movies in their web designs.

Students will work on individual as well as team based projects. Student projects will focus on the design and execution of highly interactive web sites. These projects will be performed in a real-world production atmosphere. Once a project has been assigned, students will brainstorm, outline objectives and goals, write proposals, draw flow charts, sketch storyboards, and present their proposal to a mock client. While a strong emphasis will be placed on the completion of a product by achieving project goals and objectives, the assessment of process and consistency throughout a project will also be emphasized. All projects will be posted online for the public to view.

Throughout their projects, class exercises, homework and quizzes, students will demonstrate good work ethics, leadership, initiative, teamwork, dependability, discipline, self-management, accountability and responsibility.

  • To create an environment and in our class that mirrors the work experience in the Web design industry

  • To enhance student self-esteem via the imagination and creative process
