English 12

English 12 is a full year course which attempts to examine the human condition in terms of classical and contemporary world literature. Students will study many cultures and learn about how people around the world have interpreted life - its beauty and joy, its violence and despair. During the year students will have many opportunities to develop reading, writing, speaking, and thinking skills, which will help them become productive and knowledgeable citizens of the planet they share.

Each quarter students will read and respond to a wide variety of readings: epic, drama, poetry, short story, and novel. They will apply the techniques of literary analysis to these selections and establish connections between these works and their own experiences through the writing of essays and journals, the taking of tests, and the presentation of non-written responses, such as performance and visual arts. Real life writing skills, including resume preparation, will be required. A weekly vocabulary program will also be administrated.
